HomesteadingToday.com - some information

A great deal of members on the HomesteadingToday.com forum are readers here on my blog, and I have a bone to pick with that forum at the moment.

I had been on the forum for quite a long time, and I am appreciative of all the advice I've gotten there, for sure.

I had stuck to the cattle forum and the goat forum until recently, and I had started posting on the equine forum.

I found some of the posters there to be very rude, uneducated folks, but most of the people on the forum were nice.

Following one post, the moderator, a person who goes by the name " WR ", of the equine forum, decided to harass me to no end because she did not agree with my methods and beliefs. Snide comments and deleting posts of mine that were not against the rules began, and today, she kept on until she was able to have me banned from the forum.

I appreciate all the emails from HT members that recognized this was going on, and since many read this blog, I wanted to address this here.

The post that ended up with me banned concerned a severely neglected mare and foal I rescued that were sold illegally. I posted on the equine section of Homesteading Today in order to alert Ohio residents that deal with horses in an effort to find her. Ol' WR on the equine forum did not like this post. She is not from the USA, and apparently, she isn't, among other things, educated on the laws here. She accused me of reposting information about this rescued mare and the people responsible after she deleted it initially, which was not true. I never reposted the initial information, but she was able to get my membership banned.

I do not know if the Administrator was aware of this bias, but if he was and allowed this behavior from his moderator, I hope that people take notice and unjoin from this forum.

I will also be posting this on my website since I receive an average of 2,000 unique visitors monthly and had previously directed a great deal of people with a link to homesteadingtoday.com - I want potential members to know what they might encounter on the forum.

If you do join, steer as clear of the equine forum as possible. That poor moderator is on a serious power trip.

  1. Ugh. I hate forums like that! The only horse forum I ever post in anymore is the Fugly Horse of the Day blog (where I read about your rescue mare--not in one of Fugs post, but one of the commentators noticed your Craigslist ad and said something about how nice it was you only took in as many as you could afford, and did not hoard needy animals like lots of rescuers end up doing). Well, it's not a forum, actually. It's a blog. But the comments section feels like a forum. I think the people there are a combative bunch, but so much so, that they have all learned to argue fair.

Spring 2010
Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds. For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation? The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered. The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field. And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens

"I know of no pursuit in which more real and important services can be rendered to any country than by improving its agriculture, its breed of useful animals, and other branches of a husbandman's cares."
