In a newsfeed I thought I'd tailored to suit myself pretty well (mistakenly, I now see), I've lately found a lot of people carrying on as experts about an issue that really is more heartbreaking and complex than those who haven't been part of it can understand. It is funny (or sadly, not) how opinions work. We all have millions of them, don't we? At the ripe old age of 35, one little morsel (an opinion, too) I have come to believe is I really do not need to publicly assert my thoughts on anything I do not have direct experience with; well, at least not outside of obvious moral codes like: Don't murder people for fun, Don't steal unless you're starving to death. . . "Christmas Puppies for Kids"

While gifting puppies or kittens can bring joy filled memories to children that are priceless (lasting a lifetime), it can also generate pets which are given away, discarded in shelters and ultimately euthanized across the USA post holiday if done willy-nilly. All rescuers know how this works. We see it post Christmas (puppies, kittens and sometimes adult cats and dogs) and then post Easter (bunnies, chicks and ducks). The issue isn't when a responsible adult decides to add a member to the family and picks a holiday to create an awesome surprise, but it happens when adults actually look at living beings as casual "toys" and do not consider the weight of the gift of a living animal. Folks, pets aren't toys. They are responsibilities, and they are YOUR (the adult) responsibility, not little Bobby's or Sue's. Miniature Jersey Cows: A Very Functional Farmstead Choice

I admit, I am biased. How can I not be when these lovely creatures live here?
Miniature Jersey cows vary in size and production level.
They do not usually breed true in size, so that inconsistently can make having a herd of really small Jerseys difficult, too.
Their production can range from a gallon a day to 6 gallons a day, with the larger Miniatures giving more, as a rule.
I live on a hillside with little flat land. It rains a lot here, so erosion of soil in a huge concern. My original Jersey back in 2009
Full size Jerseys actually used to be more the size of what we call Miniatures today. Commercial Dairy farming and big Agriculture slowly raised the size of the Petite Jersey (the common homestead cow) to a 900lb animal, instead. The commercial Jersey produced more milk than the homestead variety had, too.
